Yes, the City of West Memphis provides all single-family households with one complimentary roll-out container. For residents who would like to purchase a second garbage cart, each household may purchase one additional cart for $75. The additional cart will belong to the homeowner and is not the property of the city of West Memphis.

Only household garbage should be placed inside your city-provided cart. The handle of your container should point toward the home. (Arrows on the cart should point towards the street). The container should be placed for collection between 6:00 p.m. the day before and 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled garbage collection day.
Depending upon the age of your container, the City will have added wheels and/or lids in stock for your use. This is an excellent way to prolong the useful life of your container if the body of the container is still in good shape.
No. Most apartment complexes use our commercial collection service. These residents are not eligible.
First, see if a family member or neighbor will help you. If this doesn’t work, if you can provide evidence of your disability, you will receive a special service tag for your cart to be picked up from your property at no additional cost.
As part of the high-tech collection system that the sanitation department uses each cart will be embedded with a radio frequency identification chip (RFID) and bar codes. The chip will allow our Public Works Department to monitor how often residents roll carts to the curb for collection as well as be able to identify stolen carts or carts that have been blown away during severe weather.

Only bagged household trash can be put in your trash container. Please do not put loose trash into your trash cart. Do not place recyclable materials, construction refuse, yard waste, demolition refuse or hazardous materials in your cart.
No. The cart is the property of the City of West Memphis and is assigned to each street address by means of a microchip embedded inside the cart. If you move, please leave the cart at your home. Please do not write house numbers or put any other markings on the carts.
No. The automated carts are the property of the City of West Memphis and therefore no resident shall write on, place stickers upon, or deface the carts in any way.
No. Please return your cart to your house within 24 hours. Owners who leave their carts out longer than 24 hours may be assessed a fine.
Carts that are not placed on the curb on your day of collection will not be collected.
Collecting trash from additional cans is possible as long as the personal cart is a Heavy Duty “Garbage man ready” Trash Can with recessed upper lift pocket and lower lift bar for fully automated and semi-automated collection systems and must not exceed 96 gallons.

The 96-gallon trash cart is the equivalent of three regular 32 gallon trash cans. The average household sets out about three cans per week. Hold any trash that does not fit into the cart until the next scheduled collection day.
