[ARCHIVED] Governor Asa Hutchinson issues statewide mask mandate

Arkansas governor issues statewide mask mandate

Governor Asa Hutchinson on Thursday issued a statewide order requiring residents to wear face masks in public.

The mandate takes effect Monday, July 20, 2020. It requires residents to wear protective coverings in all indoor environments where social distancing is not possible and they are exposed to people who aren’t part of their household. It requires masks to be worn outdoors under the same circumstances.

There are exceptions for children under 10 years old and people who are unable to wear a mask because of a physical disability or medical condition, including those for public speaking, for voting, and for religious worship. and other conditions that inhibit mask-wearing are also exempt.

The masks will be required in all indoor areas with non-household members present, if it can’t be assured people will stay six feet or more away from each other.

They must also wear them outdoors where there is exposure to non-household members unless there’s enough space to stay six feet or more away from others.

A violation of the order is a misdemeanor offense. It can be punished by a fine between $100 and $500. People cannot be arrested or detained for violating it.
