The City’s Communications Department works directly with the Office of the Mayor, Advertising and Promotion and Economic Development to enhance public awareness of city-sponsored initiatives, communicate city policy, and increase civic participation.The department is responsible for providing effective communication with residents, staff and council, works to increase the understanding of and support for city programs, policies and projects, and to develop positive media relations that provide balanced coverage of city issues.
Nick Coulter, Director of Communications and Public Affairs
Nick’s commitment to public service and years of marketing and communications experience make him uniquely qualified to lead our communications effort. Nick brings a wide variety of talents and experience to his position, previously serving as Director of Operations for Crittenden Publishing Company for more than 15 years. In that role he was able to develop the dynamic creative and comprehensive communications skills needed through digital and print media. His focus on communications and forward thinking practices has brought the City of West Memphis internally and externally closer to it’s residents. His individual strengths and shared experiences has helped our city to become the most informed it has ever been. Prior to joining the City, Coulter also served as the Digital Marketing Director for Ford of West Memphis where he oversaw the expansion of their social media presence along with essential and strategic marketing campaigns digitally.
Media/External Communication ensures timely and accurate public information of city operations, projects and policies, council action, crisis/disaster communications, economic vitality initiatives, and awareness campaigns through traditional media, social media and the internet.

Web content/social media leads department liaison teams and oversees Internet content standards and social media guidelines to inform community members about city services and programs and to provide additional engagement opportunities outside of scheduled public meetings.
